Some very exciting news: Lady of Lincoln is heading out on a Random Things Tours book tour starting today, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share Nicola de la Haye's story with a fresh set of readers and reviewers.
Nicola de la Haye was England's first female sheriff and hereditary constable of Lincoln Castle — a woman written out of history rather than simply forgotten by it. In 1217, her defence of Lincoln Castle is argued to have stopped a French takeover of England. And yet, until now, almost nobody has told her story. Lady of Lincoln is my attempt to put that right, starting with the remarkable years of her young adulthood.
